Splendid celestial map of the northern skies, showing the different stars and constellations, their relative brightness, and in outline, astrological figures. This circular map, within its border, has engravings in the four corners, of the Observatories of Pisa, Bologna, Padova, Milano. Antonio Zatta was one of the leading cartographers and publishers of the time, and his Atlante Novissimo was one of the most beautifully produced of 18th century atlases. He drew on the work of other cartographers- such as Captain Cook, for his maps of New Zealand and Australia, Robert de Vaugondy, Bellin, and developed his own distinctive elegant style. Sold as a pair with the map of the Northern Heaveens (St. No2400)
Fine condition, good margins.
