Lavishly decorated double hemisphere world map, with smaller maps of the poles, above and below centre. These are coloured by region, and show routes of major explorers. California is shown as an island. The hemispheres are surrounded by ornate illustrations showing striking scenes of the heavens, warfare, agriculture, sailing ships and sea-monsters. Angels, cherubs, and mythical figures watch over from the clouds. Renard's Atlas of Navigation, was published by Ottens, and was one of the most important maritime atlases of the period.
