The map focuses on the island of Madagascar and also includes the coastline of southern Africa to the west of the plate. An ornate cartouche in the top left hand corner is beautifully decorated with baroque scrolling and drapery.The Fort-Dauphin is included on the south eastern tip of the island which Cardinal Richelieu ordered to be made a military outpost in 1642, and maintained until 1674. It later became the site of the French East India Company. Various trade routes are also included.

Mild foxing on top margin and a minor tear on the bottom margin not affecting image, otherwise good condition.
