This attractive plate shows an armillary sphere at centre with diagrams in the corners, with explanatory texts on the Copernican, Ptolemaic and Brahian systems of astronomy. The armillary sphere is a model of the universe, composed of connected rings linking the poles and representing the equator and the tropics. In the early eighteenth century, French cartography overtook the Dutch in terms of accuracy and design. Chiquet’s delightful Nouveau et Curieux Atlas was typical product of the time.
Good margins. Excellent condition.
