ISLE ET ROYAUME DE CANDIE

Attractive map of Crete with title at top centre on ribbon spread across the breast of a winged beast brandishing a sword. The map shows some of the nearby islands including Santorini. In the early eighteenth century, French cartography overtook the Dutch in terms of accuracy and design. Chiquet’s delightful Nouveau et Curieux Atlas was a typical product of the time.
