A beautiful view of Ranelagh Gardens in its heyday, with a masquerade in progress. Ranelagh Gardens was one of the largest and most spectacular pleasure gardens of the era. Like its great rival Vauxhall Gardens, it fell into decay in the early nineteenth-century. It was closed in 1805. The site of the rotunda, subject of a famous picture by Canaletto, is now marked by a summer house.
Excellent condition. Line wash mount, mounted size, 60.5 x 48.5 cm
