LAURETUM.

Beautiful view of the pilgrimage town of Loreto, from a nearby hillside, showing the town walls and the basilica. Loreto is famous for the house of Mary that was brought back from the Holy Land in the late 13th century. Matthaus Merian’s Topographia was a vast work, originally published in 21 volumes in 1640, remaining in print until 1730.
