A beautiful decorative map of Africa, with side borders of double costume figures and nine principal African cities in vignette along top border. Animals on land, and place names face inward to hide the lack of detail inland. Compass point, many ships and sea monsters at sea. Title at top right. Ptolemy’s Nile is shown with Lakes Zaire and Zaflan. According to Tooley, this map was one of the most popular early maps of Africa.

Good condition.Closed tears to top margin unobtrusively repaired. Overall, a little darkened.
