Ortelius's third world map, replacing the first two, with the corrected coastline of South America and the medallions in the corner, containing the quotations from Cicero and Seneca. This is the first state, retaining the 1587 date and before the addition of 'Le Maire Strait'. Title above, surrounded by ornamented strapwork, which continues all around the map. Text in Latin below.

Offsetting on title, otherwise a very clean and crisp engraving. Fine condition. Framed Size: 72 x 60cm.
