View of the extraordinary ruins of the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria with the columns, pediments and other masonry strewn over a wide area, with various people in western dress strolling through. ‘Temples’, ‘porticos’ and ‘the sepuchres’ are labelled on the hills surrounding the site. Ornamental cartouche at top left.
