CANADA and NOVA SCOTIA.
Interesting map of eastern Canada and north-east United States, showing the state of settlement and exploration in the early nineteenth century. There is much written detail on river routes and lakes, giving details of navigation, portage around rapids and waterfalls, and even fishing (‘This strait abounds with Pickersgill Trout &c.’). The New General Atlas was one of the most accurate and best produced atlases of the day. John Thomson’s ‘County Atlas of Scotland’ is generally considered the finest of its kind.
