This fascinating maps shows the routes of exploration (coloured), by land and sea, taken in search of the north-west passage in the early nineteenth-century. Inset map at lower right shows ‘Capt. Franklin’s Journey from the Coppermine River to the Head of the Bathurst Inlet. The New General Atlas was one of the most accurate and best produced atlases of the day. John Thomson’s ‘County Atlas of Scotland’ is generally considered the finest of its kind.
