Two detailed and decorative viewson one sheet: The upper view is the ancient Visigothic capital of Toledo and below, the city of Valladolid, located in northern Castile. Clearly visible on the Toledo plate are the city's most distinctive buildings, the Cathedral and the high-walled Royal Palace. Latin verso. From the Civitates Orbis Terarrum the greatest book of its kind. The "Civitates" was compiled and written by George Braun, Canon of Cologne Cathedral. and engraved by Hogenberg, Hoefnagel and others. Braun compiled vast amounts of information and draft plans to produce over 500 views/maps/schemata that were published in six parts between 1572 and 1617.
Very good condition. A couple of ink blots, one on the Toledo print, the other on lower left border of Valladolid print. Latin text on rear.
