A dramatic view of the city of Granada, with travelers in the foreground and the mountains beyond. A splendid ornamental cartouche, surrounded by flying crows, lists the Alhambra and other major buildings. From the Civitates Orbis Terarrum the greatest book of its kind. The "Civitates" was compiled and written by George Braun, Canon of Cologne Cathedral. and engraved by Hogenberg, Hoefnagel and others. Braun compiled vast amounts of information and draft plans to produce over 500 views/maps/schemata that were published in six parts between 1572 and 1617.
Good condition, but a crease runs through part of image at centrefold.
