Interesting map of eastern Brazil. The coast line is accurately depicted, showing the different ‘captainships’ (provinces) of the time, but the interior is left blank apart from a few short texts giving information on the people, mines, rivers of the unexplored areas. Inset map of ‘Island of St. Katherine’at right centre. Decorated title cartouche at top right. Emmanuel Bowen was one of the leading English mapmakers of the eighteenth-century, and was unusual in that he was cartographer to both the French and English Royal Courts.

Fine condition. Good margins.
