Handsome world map, showing the extent of the explored world in the eighteenth century - most of the coastlines are accurately depicted, although the west coast of Australia, the northwest of North America, and the north east of Asia were yet to be charted. Title cartouche at top left. Emmanuel Bowen was one of the leading English mapmakers of the eighteenth-century, and was unusual in that he was cartographer to both the French and English Royal Courts.
