A spectacular but inaccurate sea chart of the coast and and the islands of NW Scotland and Ireland. Ornamental compasses at sea, highlighted in gold, connected by rhumb lines. The Neptune Francois was ‘a seminal work in the development of sea atlases.’ (ref: British Library Catalogue.) It was compiled in co-operation with Cassini. Mortier published a counterfeit version in Amsterdam, and half a century later most of the plates were used again in a revised version published by Bellin in 1753

There is some cracking of the paper where the green paint has oxidised. This has been expertly repaired. Good margins
