Attractive print of four Portuguese ports on the way the Orient. The upper and largest print is of Calechut, south of Goa, on the Malabar Coast. The lower prints are of Ormus, Canonor and ‘St George’ ( Madras?). Braun and Hogenburg’s ‘Civitates’ consisted of over 500 city views/maps published in six parts between 1572 and 1617. Most of these engravings were made by Simon Novellanus and Frans Hogenberg, many after drawings by Joris Hoefnagel.
Very good condition, good wide margins, some show through on text from rear, mainly on upper margin.
