Handsome view of Skardo showing a large fortified monastery, a valley, and huge mountains rising behind. Skardo (modern spelling is usually ‘Skardu’) is in Baltistan, Pakistani controlled Kashmir. The town is often the starting point for mountaineering expeditions in the nearby Karakoram Range.
