[Fragments of frieze].

This magnificent print is a superb example of early printed colour. It was published in Alexandre Laborde's 'Description d'un Pave en Mosaique'. This book documented the discovery of a mosaic floor of a Roman villa, found in the village of Santiponce near Seville.This print shows fragments of the wall frieze surrounding the mosaic, depicting chariot racing, conducted either by Amazons or rather effeminate young men.

Very good condition. Good wide margins. Crease at top right, affecting the tiniest corner of the plate.
