[Part of the floor].

This magnificent print is a superb example of early printed colour. It was published in Alexandre Laborde's 'Description d'un Pave en Mosaique'. This book documented the discovery of a mosaic floor of a Roman villa, found in the village of Santiponce near Seville.This print shows four of the roundels that make up part of the floor in immaculate detail. One roundel contains a portrait of ‘Erato’, another shows a black dog, a lion and the fourth, shows part of a horse.

Very good condition. Good wide margins. Waterstain on left hand margin, not affecting image.
