[Section of the mosaic].

This magnificent print is a superb example of early printed colour. It was published in Alexandre Laborde's 'Description d'un Pave en Mosaique'. This book documented the discovery of a mosaic floor of a Roman villa, found in the village of Santponce near Seville.This print shows two of the roundels that make up part of the floor, in immaculate detail. The left roundel contains some flowers, the right hand roundel, a portrait of ‘trepsichore’. At left ther is part of the decorative border to the mosaic.

Very good condition. Good wide margins. Waterstain on left hand margin, not affecting image.
