This magnificent print is a superb example of early printed colour. It was published in Alexandre Laborde's 'Description d'un Pave en Mosaique'. This book documented the discovery of a mosaic floor of a Roman villa, found in the village of Santiponce near Seville. This print shows various figures from part of the centre section of the mosaic, as it was discovered, with some parts missing. The figures are: A group of three men - two supporting a third, who is either drunk or hurt, two horses, one with a chariot, the other being led by the halter. Two men in white and bluetunics with outstretched arms.
Excellent condition. Good wide margins. Waterstain on left hand margin, not affecting image.
