An attractive map/bird’s eye view of the city of Santo Domingo, capital of the Domincan republic by Matthew Merian. Merian was not only a publisher, but an accomplished engraver in his own right. Born in Basel, Switzerland, he spent most of his life in Frankfurt where he met and married Theodore de Bry’s daughter.
