Regionum Circumpolarium Lapponiae Islandiae et Groenlandiae &c.

Scherer was a mathematician and cartographer from Munich. This beautiful map has the North Pole at upper centre, with a latin dedication on a ribbon above it. The map shows the northern parts of America, Europe and Russia, Scandinavia and Iceland. Title at lower centre is written on a draped cloth held up by a bear and two travellers. The surface of the map is profusely illustrated with sea monsters, ships, kayaks, hunters and bears. A group of figures unpacking goods at lower right.

Small spot of rust to right of centrefold, otherwise in very good condition.
