Two views of the Under Chapell of St. Thomas on London Bridge. The upper view, is from the east to the west, the lower view shows the south side. A banner along the lower edge says ‘Represents the Manner and form of this rare Piece of Ancient Architecture, thus drawn and transmitted to Posterity by G.V. [George Vertue] Anitquary’. In the days before photography, engravings, such as this magnificent example, were how visual historical records were kept. George Vertue was employed by the Society of Antiquaries for this task, and made many engravings from paintings, plans and maps. The Society of Antiquaries in London still possesses the original plates, but early prints such as this present example drawn from these plates are not often found.

Fine condition. Beautifully crisp and clear impression.
