A handsome bird’s eye view of ‘Xuntien’, the modern city of Hangchow, one of the seven ancient capitals of China. The city, surrounded by a lake was, as this print shows with its many ships, large and small, a bustling port until the Ming dynasty. In his journals, Marco Polo described Hangchow in great detail and regarded it as one of the finest cities he had ever visited. Title on banderole at upper centre.
In fine condition, good wide margins.
