ANGLIA REGNUM

A very pretty, detailed map of England and Wales, showing counties and rivers, with hills, forests and towns shown pictorially. With elegant sailing ships at sea. Royal coat of arms at top right, Irish and Scots arms on map. Decorative title cartouche on right side crowned with a coat of arms with three lions on it, flanked by a lion and dragon. Secondary cartouche with two scales at lower right, surrounded by a cherub and two sheep, with a globe on top. Jansson probably copied the map from Blaeu, which did not contain the crests of Ireland and Scotland.

Fair condition. Some wear to centrefold, with a small tear at top and another longer one towards the bottom, both have been expertly repaired to be scarcely noticeable. Backed with kozo paper to strengthen original colour lines.
