A beautiful view over the city of Oxford, with the River Cherwell in the foreground - Magdalen Bridge spanning it at the centre, with horse-drawn carriages and pedestrians crossing. Magdalen College dominates to the right of the view, with its imposing tower at the entrance to the High Street. Small labelled sketch of view below with key to colleges and other landmarks.Oxford was the birthplace of Henry William Brewer, although he spent most of his life in North Kensington. Regarded as one of the finest architectural illustrators of his time, he specialised in panoramic views, such as this.
Very good condition, despite light vertical fold marks. Framed size 118 x 65 cm (46½ x 25½ inches).
