Sheet 6 of Edward Stanford’s magnificent and meticulous 24 sheet map of London. According to Hyde, this was the first ‘thorough-going survey of the Metropolis since Greenwood’s in 1824-26.’ It includes a vast amount of detail; every house is marked, heights, omnibus routes, administrative boundaries - county court districts, poor law districts. The map was first published in 1862, and such was its popularity that it ran to over twenty editions, the last being in 1901. The map was published uncoloured and coloured according to the buyers’ needs. Despite the fact that this ran to many editions, these days the maps are available infrequently, and the demand for them is high.

Crisp and clean. Fine condition. Mounted size: 58 x 50cm.
