A fine proof copy engraving from the Stationer’s Almanac. Shortly after King George IV came to the throne he announced that Carlton House was no longer a sufficiently grand and imposing residence for the King of England. He insisted that a new palace be built at Buckingham House, and that the architect be John Nash. Nash retained the shell of the earlier house, and a good deal of the plan, but what gradually emerged was much larger and much more expensive than envisaged. After Nash’s dismissal in 1830, Edward Blore was appointed architect, and the palace was finally finished in 1847 when the east front facing the Mall was added.
Fine condition. Framed size 67 x 49cm.
