Detailed map of the North Atlantic Ocean showing depth soundings, currents and the seaweed in the Sargasso Sea. The Sargasso sea lies roughly between the West Indies and the Azores, and is part of the North Atlantic Ocean. It was so named because there is a kind of seaweed which lazily floats over its entire expanse called sargassum.
