A highly decorative large scale depiction of Bermuda, divided into different shareholders’ areas or ‘tribes’. Rhumb lines and compass point at sea. Beautifully illustrated title and scale cartouches. Below the decorated border there is a list of the shareholders. Like many Bermuda maps of the period, this one is based on that of John Speed published in his Prospect. The coastlines of Florida, Cape Cod and New England are also shown. There is a miniature version of Bermuda, off the NW shore showing Bermuda’s relation to the coast of North America. Subsequent cartographers of Bermuda took this to be a small island off the coast of Bermuda.
Fine condition with good margins. Mounted size 72 x 60cm.
