A map of the City of London and its surrounds, designed to show the vast extent of the Great Fire of 1666. The excised detail leaves a good clear outline of the streets of the seventeenth century city and the principal sites and buildings are given in keyed indices. The map was based by Bowen on an earlier map by Wenceslaus Hollar. Originally produced for William Maitland's "The History of London, from its Foundation" (London : 1739), and here in a later edition, with Bowen's name burnished out.
Good condition. Mounted size 48 x 38cm.
