This detailed double panorama of London shows the city in two different periods of time, in 1616, and in 1890. The 1616 view is by Visscher, a highly accomplished Dutch engraver, and shows a view of the city from the South side, with St Paul’s Church and old London Bridge. It has a title cartouche, and angels holding banners. The river Thames is filled with Galleons and ships. The 1890 view is again taken from the south side. St Pauls Church has been replaced by the cathedral. There are now five bridges, including Waterloo, Blackfriars, Southwark, and the new London Bridge.
Very good condition. Framed size 120.5 x 56cm.
