John Cary’s map of the United States at the beginning of the nineteenth-century, when the the Mississippi was the western border. The state borders are more or less the same as today, except for ‘The Western Territory’, which stretched from Kentucky to Lake Superior, including Illinois, Ohio, Indiana Michigan, and Wisconsin. John Cary is considered by some to be the finest of English cartographers. His maps, although not the most decorative, appeal for their clarity, detail, and their precision of engraving. When the Ordnance Survey began accurately mapping the UK, they used John Cary’s style as the basis for their work.
Very good condition, some light offset, some marks in the margins.
