A decorative and detailed plate. The main map shows the Japanese Islands and adjacent mainland Asia, including Korea, Manchuria and the Island of Sakhalin. There is an inset map of Nagasaki at lower right. Above the map, and below the title, there are three vignettes- The Port of Simoneke, flanked by ‘Japanese Nobleman & Fishermen.’ and ‘Japanese Women of the higher and lower Class.’ Fullarton’s Royal Illustrated Atlas was one of the finest illustrated atlases of its day, and the maps are now much sought after.
