CARTE DU CONGO ET DU PAYS DES CAFRES

Delisle was an important French cartographer of the early 18th century. He held the position of First Royal Geographer to the King. A detailed map of southern Africa from the Equator including the island of Madagascar and other islands in the Indian Ocean. The relief and rivers of the land are shown and the coast is well detailed. Comments on this map explain how fertile the land is in one area and another explains that the natives “pull the teeth of elephants” and another “claim that they are a nation of dwarfs”.

Good condition - dark patches to lower corners and slightly into image. Some off-setting and the odd brown spot.
