Delisle was an important French cartographer of the early 18th century. He held the position of First Royal Geographer to the King. An interesting map of the lower section of South America including Paraguay and Chili and from Peru in the north to the Diego Ramírez islands in the south. In the west are the Isles de Fernand and in the west an island which is cited as “large island discovered by Mr de la Roche in 1675”. Interestingly what are now called the Falkland Islands are then known as the Sebald Isles after a Dutchman visited them in 1599/1600. Other interesting notes explain that in this sea are many animals that are half bird and half fish and another shows where Edmund Halley found the frozen sea (probably the Antarctic) as well as other previous explorer’s routes.

Good condition - slight dark patches in lower corner margins and foxing in margins
