Delisle was an important French cartographer of the early 18th century. He held the position of First Royal Geographer to the King. This important and attractive map of the island of Sicily has an insert lower left focussing on the islands of Malta, Gozo and their neighbours. The inset has it’s own scale and significant buildings are listed. To the north of the main map are the Aeolian Islands which are here called the Lipari islands. To the east is the tip of Naples and in the west the island of Maretimo. The list of symbols includes castles, fortresses, ruined houses and aquaducts.
Good condition - ink spot in plate mark but not affecting image. Lower corner margins slightly dark in patches and some foxing
