Delisle was an important French cartographer of the early 18th century. He held the position of First Royal Geographer to the King. An interesting map of Africa including the Mediterranean and southern Europe in the north as well as the Arabian peninsula and part of the Maldives in the east. In the west the edge of Brazil is shown. Decorative cartouche upper left corner. Points of interest are marked such as when the Isle of Saxembourg was discovered (1670) and that the first meridian line was fixed by Louis XIII in 1634. An advertisment lower left explains the distances and measurements.
Good condition - minor dark patches to lower corner margins and minor staining to upper margins but not affecting image; very slight browning to centrefold and tear in lower margin that has been repaired.
