Delisle was an important French cartographer of the early 18th century. He held the position of First Royal Geographer to the King. A very detailed and beautiful map of Flanders (northern Belgium), as well as parts of Northern France including Lille. An interesting note at the top of this map explains where in 1377 nineteen villages were flooded at this spot (and presumably have since disappeared under the sea). The relief and settlements are all shown. Decorative cartouche lower right.
Very good condition. Slight browning to centrefold.
