These engravings by Aquila are after Annibale Carracci’s wall frescoes in the Gallery in Palazzo Farnese in Rome, commissioned by Cardinal Odoardo Farnese, begun in 1597. This superb engraving shows sections from Carracci’s famous designs for the Galerie Farnese in Rome. Perseus married Andromeda inspite of Phineus to whom she had before been promised. The scene is taken from the wedding of Perseus and Andromeda. At the wedding a quarrel takes place between the rivals. In the centre stands Perseus holding up the head of Medusa. Phineus, who stands with his spear in his hand is turned to stone by the sight of the Gorgon's head.
Fold down the centre, good condition.
