Guilliame Delisle (1675-1726) is important as the first "scientific" cartographer who incorporated the most current information on exploration and topography into his maps. He adopted entirely new principles in cartography and set about making a thorough reform in that subject. Delisle recognized that the new methods of measuring by scale and of marking the places were very valuable for cartography; with this help he therefore produced a new and more accurate picture of the world.This beautiful map of the British Isles is extending west to east from Kerry to Oldenbourg and north to south from The Shetland Islands to Normandy, coloured by region. Fantastic title cartouche at top left, decorated with fish, birds, horses, fishing nets, with Neptune above and water below, secondary cartouche with five scales at lower right.

Very good condition; both bottom margins have marks slightly affecting the image.
