Gorgeous engraving of two playful leopards (Stubbs, as was the custom of the time, calls all big cats 'tygers') on the banks of a stream, emerging from a dark, brooding grotto. Although George Stubbs is best known as an animal painter, particularly of horses, this bold work shows off his considerable talent as an engraver. This beautiful print isione of a limited edition of 175 copies, printed in 1974 on J. Barcham Green `Penshurst' paper, under the supervision of Philip McQueen. The edition was published by Ian Bain at the John Boydell Press for Observer Art Ltd.
Fine condition, good margins. Presented in quality museum mount and hand made silver frame. Framed size: 69 x 60cm
