Clear and accurate map of early nineteenth century China, coloured by province, also showing rivers, routes and towns. Four scales at lower left, title at lower right. John Cary was considered 'the most representative, able and prolific of English cartographers'. Tooley says, 'As an engraver he was elegant and exact with fine clear lettering and great delicacy of touch'. When the Ordnance Survey began accurately mapping the UK, they used John Cary's style as the basis for their work.
Very good condition, some offsetting; some browning to the centrefold.
