Very attractive sea chart showing the North Sea, formerly called The German Ocean with England's east coast, the English Channel and the coasts of France, Holland, Denmark, Germany, the Baltic Sea and the coasts of Norway and Sweden. A very decorative compass rose with radiating rhumb lines is drawn in the Ocean and the title is placed is an ornamental cartouche designed as a draped banner ornamented with scrolls, flowers and leaf motifs in bottom right. The map was drawn & engraved by Richard Wilson Seale (fl.1732-1773) for “The History of England” Written in French by Mr. Rapin de Thoyras. Translated into English with Additional Notes by N. Tindal. M.A. the Vicar of Great Waltham in Essex, England.This is a very attractive sea chart with excellent detail.
Very good condition; light browning to the centrefold and some offsetting to the bottom.
